Keeping your cat safe on Halloween

Vetco Pet safety black catNot much can be cuter than seeing your cat dressed up for Halloween. It is a fun time of the year for sure, but we also must remember to keep the safety of our cats in mind during this time of the year.

Halloween can bring some anxiety on for cats. There is a lot of noise and commotion going on. Kids coming and going don’t help either. A good thing to do is to confine your kitty into a space of their own during the trick or treat hours. This will keep them from being able to bolt out the door and possibly get lost.

Are you dressing up your cat? Make sure that the costumes you use are non-flammable. Also, costumes that restrict their vision or movement are not a good idea.

Keep kitty indoors. This goes for both the night before and the night of Halloween. Many cats go missing during these times. If your cat is black, it is even more likely they might wind up missing. While we love to assume the best of everyone pranks and unspeakable things happen to cats during this time of the year.

Keep the candy away from the cats. Most candies have ingredients that are toxic to your cat. You are best to keep it out of the cat’s reach for their own safety.

Make sure your cat has proper identification. During this time, it is important that your cat have id tags and is microchipped. Remember that a microchip can make a huge difference when trying to reunite a lost pet with an owner. You can have us microchip your cat for you.

Enjoy this Halloween and keep your precious kitties safe and sound.
