RECIPE: Peanut Butter Cookies for Dogs
I love peanut butter cookies. They remind me of being a kid, especially when they are all warm and squishy. Did you know that dogs also love peanut butter? The do! You can make an easy and healthy peanut butter cookie treat for your dog, and who knows, you might like it as well.
Peanut butter has good protein and fats which makes this a sweet and healthy treat. However, too much peanut butter can make your dog’s stomach upset. So only give him one cookie at a time.
Remember to always consult with your Albuquerque vet on the proper diet for you dog during their annual checkup.
Peanut Butter Cookie Recipe for Dogs
Whole Wheat Flour (or coconut flour)– 2½ cups
Baking Powder – 1 teaspoon
Peanut Butter (we prefer natural but any kind will do. You can also substitute almond butter, sunflower butter, cashew butter)– 1 cup
Water – 1 cup
Honey (Go local! Local honey will give your dog natural immunities to local allergens as well.)– 2 tablespoon
Egg – 1
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
Mix the dry ingredients (flour, baking powder).
Add the egg and mix in with the dry ingredients.
Add the peanut butter, water and honey to the egg and dry ingredient mixture and stir until well blended. Your dough should be firm but sticky. Sometimes you have to use your bare hands to mix up the batter, but don’t be afraid to dig in there. Plus you can lick your fingers afterwards.
Flour a flat surface and roll our the dough until it is about 1/2 inch thick. Using a cookie cutter of your preferred shape, we like the shape of a dog, cut out your cookies. Remember these will expand and rise, so don’t go for anything too intricate or you might have a Pinterest fail image by accident.
Bake them for 20 minutes or until they are a golden brown color.
Store them in an air tight container and give them as a treat. You can also freeze the dough if you made too much, and use it for later.
